ABOUT MRS. BROWN

My Family

My family includes my husband, Jeff, our two sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law who teaches too, and one adorable grand daughter.  Jeff and I enjoy traveling a lot.  We also are Pontiac enthusiasts.  My husband and I have always been Lincoln residents.

This summer, July 2008, I was very lucky to be involved in the School of Rock at Texas A & M University where I learned about the science behind drilling for core samples that help scientists determine our Earth's climate history.  The Core Repository at this university is the 2nd largest in the world. I was one of 14 other teachers from around the United States to be chosen to attend this school for teachers so we can bring the real science of core samples back to our classrooms.

My Educational Background

I graduated from UNL in May of 1992.  I was a non-traditional student and decided to finish up my teaching degree after staying home with my sons for several years as they grew up.

My first teaching job was at Belmont, and I taught there for ten years.  I enjoyed the diversity, the staff, and students there immensely.  I decided to change to sixth grade because of the 6-8 middle school concept that took place during the spring and summer of 2002.  I love teaching sixth graders!  The staff here at Pound is incredible and fun to teach with each day!

Personally....

I love teaching.  It is a very fulfilling job and always exciting.  My other interests include sign language, writing, and genealogy.  I share sign language with my students in class from time to time.  I also have been very involved in scoring for the State Writing Assessment.  I think it is very important to bring the real world into the classroom.  I have been connected to the ANDRILL project last year and again this year.
