Frequently Asked Questions
How do I begin class?
Enter the room in a calm, polite manner. Pick up your folder and book. Sit in your assigned seat (unless I tell you otherwise). Check the board for instructions and the daily agenda. Begin working on any posted assignments.
How do I end class?
If we have ended class before the bell rings, I expect you to remain in your seat until the bell rings. You may talk quietly if you would like. Return your folder as you leave.
What if the bell rings and class is not over?
Please remain in your seat until I dismiss you. I will do my best to end our lesson before the bell rings. Do not get up before I have ended class, you may miss some important information.
What if I need to go to the restroom?
Please let me know and I will sign your planner. Remember, once you are out of passes, you may not leave.
What if I forget my pen?
I will try to have extra pens and pencils for you to use. Quietly borrow one, but remember to return it at the end of class. Once I run out of pens and pencils, you are on your own.
Can I bring food or drinks to class?
Yes, as long as it is not disruptive. Please make sure to clean up your trash. If I have to pick up your garbage the entire class will lose food and drink privileges for one week.
What if I forget my book?
Once you are in the room, you are expected to stay until the end of class. If you forget something you will not be let out to get it. Please let me know that you have forgotten your materials and I will try to find you a temporary replacement. Please return the materials at the end of class. You are also always welcome to leave your notebook, textbook, and personal reading book in my classroom.
Are we going to have a lot of homework?
I will try my best to give you enough time in class to get your work done. If you find you need more time than is allowed, you may have to take some assignments home. This is especially true when it comes to writing assignments.
Can I come in after school for extra help?
Yes, I will be in the building until at least 3:15 each day. If I am not in my room, check in the English office (room 116). I am also available 5th and 7th period if you would like to come in for more help.
What do I do if I miss class?
The assignments you missed will be in your folder. Please pick them up when you return. You are the only one responsible for making up missed work.
What happens if I don’t get an assignment in on time?
I will accept late work until the end of each quarter. After this deadline, it will be given a zero.
