My wife and I had a tremendous opportunity to go to a Yankees' game while we were in New York City.  We had great seats, and although I am not a Yankee fan, I do like Alex Rodriguez.  A-Rod was stuck on 499 homeruns for his career, and every time he came to the plate there was an electricity that filled the air that was simply unexplainable.  A-Rod did not have a homerun on this night, but he did go 1 for 3 at the plate with an RBI.  He did hit number 500 the next day. Royals' rookie third baseman, and Lincoln-native Alex Gordan had a tremendous debut in Yankee Stadium by getting a hit (a double) in his first at bat.  He had some very good at bats, and was very aggressive at the plate. Here you see the infield being uncovered after a brief rain shower prior to the start of the game.  It was very interesting to watch the coordination of the ground crew in being able to get the field in shape for the game.
Here I am posing in front of the famed "Wall Street Bull" or "Charging Bull" - a 7,000 lb bronze statue made by an Italian-born artist and illegally placed in front of the NYSE in 1989.  After police were called in to get rid of it, the public outcry was so great that Parks and Rec made room for it in a differen location nearby.  The artist made the Bull  after Black Monday on October 19, 1987. Here is a straight on picture of the Bull.  The stock market is considered "bullish" when there is heavy buying and the market surges forward and upward. This is the entrance to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and it was n't long ago that prior to 9/11 you could actually visit the exchange.  Now, security is very tight, with screening area for IDs  in a fenced off area in front, along with bomb sniffing dogs patrolling in the area outside the fence.
The Brooklyn Bridge was tremendous physical undertaking.  My wife and I walked up the bridge, but the hot and humid weather took its toll on us as we made it to the first section of the bridge.  The view was fantastic, but it was steep and LONG! Even in Time Square , there are financial businesses displaying market information.  It shows you why New York is considered the financial center of our economy. A view of the skyline from down in the streets of Time Square.  The view was unbelievable from street level.  Especially at night with all the lights and billboards, your visual senses were completely stimulated.
Here my wife and I pose in front of the building used in all the shots of Monica's apartment in the NBC series "Friends". The NASDAQ lit up at night in Time Square.  The NASDAQ is the digital market that specializes in tech and dot-com companies. The Flatiron Building has become a famous landmark in New York because of its unique design.
Probably the most emotional part of the trip was when we visited the Ground Zero Museum.  It was started by the official photograher (to the right of my wife) who was the only official photographer allowed on the site during during the recovery effort.  Also pictured is one of the firefighters that survived 9/11. Memorial Arch in Washington Square Park.  Do you recognize the red apartment complex behind the arch?  This is where Will Smith's character, Robert Neville, lived in the 2007 movie, "I Am Legend". From the observation deck, this is the top of the Empire State Building.
