Biomes
We will be studying the tundra, taiga, grasslands, desert, and rainforest.
The CRT over biomes will be given on December 11th.
Biome Review Sheet
Biome – a large ecosystem that covers a large area of land
Rainforests have the highest biodiversity of any biome.
The greatest threat to biodiversity is the destruction or loss of habitat. Cutting down a forest takes organisms’ habitats away.
Extinct – they are gone forever – none remain alive
Endangered – threatened – becoming extinct
Biomes include rainforests, tundra, taiga, grasslands, and deserts.
The tropical rainforest has many different living things, heavy rainfall, and is warm all year long. It has the greatest diversity of producers.
Nebraska is part of a grassland. Grasslands have wide-open prairies and grazing animals.
Alaska has a tundra biome. Polar bears live in the tundra.
Ecosystem – a community of living things and the environment that they interact.
In the desert, plants do not grow close together because they compete for water. The desert is very dry, has few types of plants and animals, and can be hot or cold.
