7th Grade Exploratory Vocal Music

Our music curriculum has three basic parts to it

  1. part-singing and good vocal production
  2. knowledge of the keyboard instruments
  3. music theory

I believe the 7th grade exploratory music class at Lux Middle School should have an "active" participation environment emphasis rather than a "passive" one. Therefore tests and quizzes are de-emphasized. Almost everyday students have the oportunity to play on musical instruments such as the piano, guitar, xylophones, dulcimers, and drums as well as other non-pitched percussion instruments. Our LPS music curriculum builds on past musical experiences but also offers a varying degree of difficulty and challenges. Depending on the musical background of the personel in each class, emphasis is pust on the following:

  1. Working with the students' singing voices as the instrument begins to emerge into an adult voice.
  2. Part-singing
  3. Basic knowledge and understanding of musical concepts and symbols through the use of theory games.
  4. Orff Xylophones/non-pitched percussion ensemble work.
