Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Lincoln Southwest High School. We are looking forward to working with your student this year. I ask that you please read the following departmental policies on this page. Your student should provide you a signature page for you to sign. (Calculators can only be checked out once the signature form is returned.)

Inventory—Textbooks and Calculators

Your student will be issued a textbook during the first week of class. It is your student’s responsibility to report any damage that may already be present with the textbook they receive so they are not held accountable at the end of the course.

Depending on which class your student is in, he or she may also be checked out a TI-34 scientific calculator or a TI-83+ graphing calculator. These are $16 and $88 pieces of equipment, respectively. The student is responsible for the calculator. Should it become damaged, lost, or stolen, the student is expected to pay for the repair and/or replacement, just as they would for a lost or damaged textbook. (Naturally, your student may already have a calculator; thus they will not need to check one out.) We strongly advise your student to keep possession of the calculator at all times.

After checking out a calculator, your student has one week to verify that the calculator is in working order. If it does not work properly, the calculator may be exchanged for one that does work. After the first week, any damage or malfunction will be assessed the appropriate fine.

If your student already owns a calculator, we urge you to engrave or otherwise mark his/her name on it.

Extra Help

Math Help is available! We desire to help all of our students the best we can in the 90 minutes that we meet during class. However in the past, some of our students have asked for additional help outside of class. Again, we are here to help! Check with your teacher. We are more than happy to work with your student before or after school should they need extra help. We urge your student to get help as needed! Many of our teachers are available each and every day before school and after school.

Please ask your student to refrain from bringing these to class. Reference the LSW student handbook for more information.

Tardies

Please encourage your student to come to class on time. Again, reference the LSW student handbook for more information

Teacher Websites

Each of our teachers maintain a website. On the teacher’s website you will find course information, assignment logs, students grades, etc. (Naturally you will be only able to check your student’s grade given your students login and computer password.) We encourage you to check your student’s grade and correspond with his/her teacher with questions or comments.
