Education & Background

  • Active duty in United States Navy.  Primary responsibility was maintaining the Poseidon Missile Fire Control System onboard a nuclear submarine.  (Retired 10/77)
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at UNL (Spring 1979)
  • Teaching Certificate in Secondary Mathematics at UNL (Spring 1983)
  • Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics (Summer 1997)

Teaching Career

  • Started teaching at Lincoln High School (Fall 1983).
  • Joined the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics (Fall 1983).
  • Sponsored or cosponsored Math Club for 21 years.
  • Participated in Nebraska Math Scholars Program (Summer 1988 and 1989).
  • Served on Executive Board of the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics (NATM) as the Newsletter Editor (Fall 1989 – Spring 1999).
  • Recipient of the Don W. Miller Math Award from the Lincoln Rotary Club (Spring 1997).  The award is presented to an outstanding math educator in the community.
  • Math Department Chairman (Fall 1999 – Spring 2005)
  • Recipient of the Donald W. Miller Distinguished Service Award from the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics (Spring 1999). The purpose of the award is to honor mathematics educators for their contribution to the improvement of mathematics education in the state of Nebraska.
  • Wesleyan Honors Academy Calculus Coordinator. (Spring 2004)
