8th Grade Science - General Information
The Lincoln Public Schools 8th grade science curriculum is a great time for students to explore four entirely different fields in science. All district curriculum objectives for 8th grade science can be found at this link.
1st Quarter: Astronomy
First quarter the curriculum focuses the astronomy of our solar system. We learn the cycles of the moon, how the sun gives energy to our solar system, and about the other planets that share our solar system. This year the 8th grade science teachers are going to emphasize science skills such as data interpretation and graphing within the curriculum.
2nd Quarter: Sound & Light
Second quarter the focus is on the different types of waves that carry sound and light. We will spend time with the electromagnetic spectrum and mirrors & lenses.
3rd Quarter: Forces, Motion & Energy
Third quarter we spend most of our time learning about simple motion including speed and acceleration, simple machines and energy. This is when we get to spend the most time in the lab collecting data and practicing science skills.
4th Quarter: Cells & Heredity
Fourth quarter the curriculum focuses on cell structure and fuction in addition to energy and cells. The last few weeks we learn about cell reproduction and modern genetics.
