The LSW Choirs combine to perform 'The Star Spangled Banner' at the LPS Marching Contest on October 14th, 2006.

 

Southwest High School is proud to have 3 large mixed choirs: Freshmen Choir, Concert Choir, the Select Varsity Concert Choir, and the Select Chamber Choir.

 

FRESHMEN CHOIR

Freshmen Choir is a mixed choir (guys & gals) that meets during Block 2B, Monday through Friday.  In this class, students learn music theory fundamentals, music history fundamentals, basics of vocal pedagogy, choral literature, and rehearsal/performance etiquette.  The choir performs at 4 concerts/year.  The 2009-2010 Freshmen Choir features 60+ voices and is still growing. CONCERT CHOIR

Concert Choir is a mixed choir (guys & gals) that meets during Block 1B, Monday through Friday.  In this class, students continue to learn music theory fundamentals, music history fundamentals, basics of vocal pedagogy, choral literature, and rehearsal/performance etiquette.  The choir performs at 4 concerts/year.  The 2009-2010 Concert Choirs features 60+ voices and is STILL growing. SELECT VARSITY CONCERT CHOIR

Select Varsity Concert Choir is a mixed choir (guys & gals) that meets during Block 3B, Monday through Friday.  Members were selected by audition in the early Spring of 2009 to be members of the ensemble during the 2009-2010 school year.  In this class, students learn principles of music theory, music history, basics of vocal pedagogy, choral literature, and rehearsal/performance etiquette.  The choir performs at 4 concerts/year as well as the LPS Large Group Contest.  the 2009-2010 Select Varsity Concert Choir features 50+ voices and is still growing.  For more information about joining this choir (and its NEVER too late) please contact Denise Cotton at dcotton@lps.org or (402) 436-1306, ext. 66505 or Elizabeth Goldsmith at egoldsm@lps.org or (402) 436-1306, ext. 66506.  Students MUST audition before being placed in this choir.

SELECT CHAMBER CHOIR

Select Chamber Choir is mixed choir (guys & gals) that meets on EVEN calendar days during Block 3A.  Members were selected by audition in the early Spring of 2009 to be members of the ensemble during the 2009-2010 school year.  In this class, students are exposed to collegiate and professional level choral music.  This class is geared towards students wishing to continue singing past high school.  This ensemble serves as an ambassador to the Lincoln community and is available to perform for community functions.  The choir performs at 4 concerts/year and various 'run-out' performances outside of school.
