Planners

Each child will receive a planner that is to be to taken to all classes, all year, and used daily to record assignments.  Planners are to be used as a communication tool between school and home, and will be checked by your child’s teachers periodically.  Students will be expected to have their planners filled out, according to the teacher’s directions, by the end of each class.

Homework
Your child will have homework assignments in each of the curricular areas. Homework may include, but is not limited to:

  • Daily assignments not completed in class
  • Literature book reading assignments, projects, etc.
  • Work designed specifically for the practice or review of skills
  • Preparation for tests in all the curricular areas

Late Homework Policy

  • If an assignment is not turned in when it is due, the student will automatically lose 10%.
  • Once an assignment is late, it is the student’s responsibility to complete it at home.
  • Excessive late work will result in parent contact.
  • Assignments not ever completed will result in a 0% being recorded for that assignment.

Tardy Policy
Students who come to class late will be counted as tardy. The procedure for tardies in each class is as follows:

1st tardy –   Warning
2nd tardy – 15 minutes after school with the parent notified
3rd tardy –  30 minutes after school with the parent notified
4th tardy –  The student meets with Dr. Dirks or Mrs. Seim -

                     parent notified.
5th tardy – The student is assigned a detention by Dr. Dirks

                     or Mrs. Seim
6th tardy – The student receives a referral to Dr. Dirks or

                     Mrs. Seim

Absent Work

  • All planned absences must be reported to the attendance office so the students can receive a pink slip, which will be their pass back into class.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to collect work missed due to being absent. This includes time spent in the Quiet Room.
  • If a student misses a test, quiz or any assignment that would require them to work in the classroom, they must make arrangements with the classroom teacher.
  • Students will be given 2 days per day absent to complete the work. If it is not returned at that time, it will be considered late and the homework policy listed above goes into effect.
  • Please wait for 3 consecutive days of unplanned absence before you ask for work to be sent home.

6th Grade Theme Days - "Pound Learners Celebrate!"

This year there will be an “early out” day every month, which is scheduled by the District so that teachers can attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings.   On those days every period will be shortened with school dismissing at 1:38.  On every PLC day all three sixth grade teams will  unite to have a “Theme Day” such as “Backwards Day”, “Twin Day”, or “Favorite Sports Team Day.”  The students will be encouraged to participate by dressing accordingly, as this is a great way to build unity and celebrate our students.
