Classes and Curriculum

Fine Arts
(Minimum of 5 credits required for graduation)


All tools and materials will be provided for students to complete required class assignments.  If students are careless with materials or handle equipment improperly, they will have to pay for additional supplies.  Material may be purchased to do additional projects of the student's choice.

Courses which do not have a prerequisite include 2D/3D Design, Beginning Drawing, and Beginning Pottery.

Design

2D/3D Design

Grades 9 - 12 No Prerequisites Students will see and understand design in their life by using drawing, sculpture, and painting and other art methods to learn the seven core abilities of art education.

Grades 10 - 12 No Prerequisites Students will draw from observation and their imagination as they build drawing skills and knowledge of basic drawing processes.

Grades 10 - 12 Beginning Drawing Students will use a variety of materials and techniques to create finished drawings and develop them into paintings and prints.

Grades 10 - 12 Beginning Drawing or 2D/3D Design Students will use tempera, watercolor and acrylic paints to explore a variety of painting techniques.

Grades 10 - 12 No Prerequisites An introduction to the tools and materials used in film and digital photography.  Students will work in the darkroom to expose and develop photographic images.
Photographic Techniques 01810 Grades 11 - 12 Beginning Photography Advanced study in camera control, lighting and darkroom techniques will be emphasized.  A personal camera will be very beneficial but not necessary.

Grades 11 - 12 Photo Techniques Learning about the expressive qualities of photographs while improving skills is the goal of this class.

Grades 9 - 12 No Prerequisites Students will create various clay projects while learning the skills and techniques of hand built and wheel thrown pottery.

Grades 10 - 12 2D/3D Design This class will cover a variety of sculptural techniques using the materials wood, metal and clay.  The class will be combined with Beginning Jewelry and will encourage students to participate in combined projects.

Grades 10 - 12 2D/3D Design Students will create various forms of body adornment (jewelry) using a variety of material including metal, clay and wood.  This class will be combined with Beginning Sculpture and will encourage students to participate in combined projects.

Digital Art Technology 03020 Grades 10 - 12 Beginning Drawing or 2D/3D Design Students will use the tools and skills of graphic design to create assignments that simulate the kind of work a commercial artist might encounter.  Computer applications will include illustration, graphic design, and product promotion.
