SHOW CHOIR REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES!!

Stay tuned for future rehearsal schedules. :)
Commonly asked questions:
Q: How come it costs so much to participate in show choir?
A: Costs are based on the actual costs of hotels, competition entrance fees, busing costs, choreographer costs, and T-Shirts.
Q: I didn't think you could charge fees in excess of $200 for an LPS class....how can you charge $600?
A: There is no FEE for show choir participation. There are planned costs for show choir participation. Each Spring, we invite families and students to participate in show choirs, explain the cost involved, and then let them decide as a family if they would like to participate. Families that agree to cover the costs sign a Parent/Student Agreement and turn this into the director. Students can then be considered for participation in the show choirs. It's a bit like asking families if they would like to go on a trip. If the family can't afford it or chooses not to participate in the trip, their son/daughter is not placed in the Tour Choir. The only difference between an all choir trip and show choir is that we put all the students that are willing and able to cover these costs is placed into the show choir class. It is my belief that the purpose of putting a limit on the fee that you can ask of families in choir was put into place to protect families from being 'blind-sided' by unforseen expenses. With show choir, everyone knows what it costs going into the class. No one is suprised.
Q: Why don't we use Showdown money to cover the costs of participation?
A: Simply put,....we do use Showdown money to cover the cost of participation....just not the way most families would think. It costs each student far more than $600 to participate if you factor in the costs of riser up-keep, microphone up-keep, construction of boxes, stairs, and other set items, and clinician costs. These sort of costs are covered by Showdown profits and we WILL be using money to purchase risers and other large ticket items in the future.
I hope this helps families understand how we "do business" at Southwest. If you have further questions, please e-mail me and I'll do my best to answer them.
