-Short introduction
-Hand out books, go over rules and safety
-Fill out Student information sheet
-Take class pictures
-Demo penny lab
-explain how to use the computer interfacing equipment
-collect data- Students copy data from overhead screen.

-Plot data on graph paper, mass (g) on the vertical axis and the number of pennies on the horizontal axis

-Find an equation for the line of best fit

Wednesday

- JR homework
-Ask the students to answer the following questions about their graph as you sign the homework

    • did you connect the dots on your graph?
    • What is the meaning of the slope of your line?
    • What is the meaning of your Y intercept?

- Students start collecting data for the M&M lab (due Thursday)
-Answer questions on lab sheet
- Prepare a whiteboard for the M&M experiment
-Answer the following questions for the lab:
1) How much would 100 m&m’s weigh?
2) Given the weight of the bag, how many m&m’s are in the bag?
3) Given the cost of one bag, what would 1 kg of m&m’s cost?

-M&M lab due Thursday

-JR M&M Lab
-Students start presenting their whiteboards for the M&M lab

  • Introduce yourself
  • Each person must participate in the presentation
  • Students not presenting take notes and summarize information presented

-On the big whiteboard introduce the concept of Math models
-Have each group write the math model for their data on the big whiteboard.

 
Friday -Finish presenting whiteboards on M&M
-Post lab talk
-Physics pretest on Monday August 27
-M&M lab with group summery and conclusion due Tuessday
