Pottery - Semester Curriculum

Who we are....what we do...

18 WEEKS  (9-12 Grade: No PreRequisites)

All tools and materials will be provided for students to complete required assignments.  If students are careless with materials or handle equipment improperly they may have to pay for additional supplies.

Additional material may be purchased to do additional projects of the student choice.  This class offers a variety of experiences in ceramics while learning about clay, hand-building, throwing, surface decoration, and firing processes. 5 credits

Grade Scale:

All units will be graded using a rubric, based upon standards required in Lincoln Public School Art Department.  7 Core Ability grades will be assigned.  The rubric grades will accumulate throughout the semester to achieve your grade percent in each Core Ability.  Those 7 categories will be averaged together to achieve your overall grade at the end of the semester.

General Expectations:

  • Character counts.
  • Put off assumptions; let me teach you, you can try.  Don’t say, “I can’t”.
  • Attend class.  Be on time.
  • Listen / Participate actively and reflectively.  Be fully present.  Complete all required work using your best skills.
  • Cell phones, MP3 players, iPods will be taken away and turned into security.
  • Use the restroom and get drinks before or after class.  You must have your ID and planner to leave the classroom.
  • Assigned seats - BE THERE, WORK THERE.  Take care of your space and the art room area.  Tabletop and floor must be cleaned.

Consequences for unacceptable behavior,

disruptions, tardy, or truancy:

  • Student notified with a verbal warning.
  • Parent notified.
  • Referral to principal.
