Conferences
Every year FBLA Members have the opportunity to attend several different conferences. Some are local and others will take you around the United States.
Nebraska Fall Leadership Conference (FLC)
All officers and up to four general members may attend this one-day conference at Holiday Inn Central in Omaha. All of the Lincoln Public Schools travel together to Omaha and they have a fun time discussing what each chapter is doing. During this conference officers meet with their state officer and there is always a powerful keynote speaker.
National Fall Leadership Conference (NFLC)
The National Fall Leadership Conference is open to all FBLA members. Students that attend will meet with other FBLA members from many different states and attend workshops that will help them become better leaders. There are usually four different sites around the U.S. and one of them is usually close to us. In 2004 we attended NFLC in Omaha (Quest Center) and in 2005 we went to Kansas City, Missouri. In Kansas City students also enjoyed going to the Crown Center, touring their museum and going to The Plaza for shopping.
In 2007 NFLC will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 9-10.
Spring Leadership Conference (SLC)
The Spring Leadership Conference is held each year during the first Thursday/Friday/Saturday of April at the Holiday Inn Central Hotel in Omaha. SLC is what we are working for all year. We learn about our organization and work hard at our studies so that we can attend SLC and do well. Even though East is a young organization (rechartered in Fall, 2004), we have had a strong showing at SLC. During this time Nebraska FBLA chooses its next year's officers and members participate in various competitions (written tests, speeches, reports and demonstrations) and workshops. The top two place winners in each competition have the opportunity to compete for Nebraska at the National Leadership Conference. In 2005 Lincoln East FBLA Member Anish Mitra was named Nebraska's Mr. FBLA which, along with Ms. FBLA is the highest award that any FBLA member may receive.
National Leadership Conference (NLC)
Students that do extremely well in their competitions (1st and 2nd places) are given the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference and compete for Nebraska. When either or both of the top two are not able to attend or are already taking another test, the next places in line are invited to participate.
During NLC students are able to compete, take tours and see the sites of the host city, attend workshops on how to become a better leader, learn more about our organization, and meet other students from around the world.
These conferences are held all around the United States and are usually the last week of June/first week of July. They last about a week. Nebraska FBLA usually travels as a group to these conferences so the participants really get to know each other.
