Desktop Publishing is the placement of information so that the reader/customer is drawn to the information. It should be easy to read and easy to understand. In this class, we will work with the following programs:
- Microsoft Word - basics
- Microsoft Publisher - intermediate
- Adobe Fireworks - graphics
- Adobe PhotoShop - picture/graphics
- Adobe InDesign - advanced desktop publishing features
Directions for using scanner
- Log into Miss Anderson's computer
- Start Photoshop Elements 5
- Go to the Organizer window (where all the pictures are located)
- Choose File, Get Photos and choose Scanner
- Scanner program will start up - preview and then scan the photos
- Place multiple pictures in scanner at a time
- Scan - use Photoshop Elements to break apart
- Use highest quality of JPEG when scanning
- When you finish scanning, close the scanner window - all of your pictures should be behind it - will go into Photoshop Elements
- Save the pictures to your file - choose highest quality

Starting on Monday, we will work on the Final Photoshop Project - Collage. Students will have until Wednesday, November 26 to finish their collages. Collages will be printed as 5 X 7's at a photo copy center. Students wanting to have theirs printed as a 8 X 10" need to turn $1 in to Miss Anderson by Monday, November 24.

- When you get to the portion regarding Illustrator
- Place the Bike 2008 image
- Double-click on the layer box in the layers window for the bike layer - a layer style window will appear, change picture as follows -
- Opacity - play with it, I took mine down to 62%
- Play with the left side - I ended up with Outer Glow and Inner Glow
- Play with the rest - have it so that the image "pops"
- Upload to Docushare when you are done - make sure that your name is included on the image and inside the filename.
- Go to Worth 1000 - www.worth1000.com - look at the different competitions and think about what you would like to do and create.
- Worth 1000 Tutorials - must complete 5 different tutorials - each picture is worth 20 points (100 points)

- Submitting work
- Save each work as your name and the name of the tutorial
- Upload to Docushare
- Copy/paste each work to a Word document - tell me what tutorial you used and what you did to the picture.
