Introduction
The Lincoln High Desktop Publishing course curriculum is a project-based introduction to design.
The curriculum is tightly integrated with the Adobe applications including InDesign® CS2 software
as well as Photoshop Elements® 3.0.

Course Description
The Desktop Publishing course is an introduction to the design, creation, and production flow of document layouts.
The course includes the evaluation, creation, and implementation of sophisticated graphics and typography.
Through Web resources and software applications, the students learn how to:
     »critically evaluate publication quality
     »create quality professional design layouts
     »understand design standards and why they are important
     »work on publication designs to create culminating projects
     »design and develop publications for local community businesses and organizations.

Guiding Principles
Teaches design techniques based on principles of design theory through projects
Provides students with an opportunity for "real world" experience by
designing and developing publications for local community organizations
Includes soft skill elements such as:
     »organizational skills
     »ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients

Course Objectives
Students will gain the skills and project-based experience needed for entry level publication careers.
Students will be able to use a variety of strategies and tools to create professional layouts.
Students will develop awareness and appreciation of the various styles used to create various publications.
