Senior Important Dates 2008-2009

Important Information for Seniors

  • Attend Senior Meeting with your parents September 30 at 7:00 PM (after Parent/Teacher Conferences). Learn about College Applications, Scholarships and Financial Aid, and other post-high school options.
  • College Club meets September 16 and 30, October 14 and 21, 2:00-3:00 PM in C113 (Media Center Computer Lab). Counselors will be available to help you complete college applications, register for a FAFSA PIN number, research scholarships and apply for them, write essays, or anything else you need to do to prepare for your plans after high school. Attend 3 sessions and earn a College Club t-shirt.
  • To attend a 4-year college or university, you should take the ACT, preferably before Christmas. The next test date is October 25 (deadline September 19) , then December 13 (deadline November 7). You can either register online (www.actstudent.org) or pick up a registration packet in the Counseling Center. Fee waivers are available for students who qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program.
  • To attend SCC, you will need to take the COMPASS test. See your counselor for information and contact SCC to register.
  • Many colleges, universities and trade schools are coming to visit with students at LNS. To find out who’s coming each week, check in the Counseling Center and sign up. This is a great opportunity to make a “college visit” without leaving school----talk with college representatives, pick up information and applications.
  • Throughout the school year, visits will be scheduled to several colleges and universities. Listen to announcements for an opportunity to go on a free college visit.
  • Attend the Lincoln Area College Fair at SCC-Lincoln on October 19 from 1:00-3:30 PM.
  • APPLY EARLY  In most cases, you will need to provide a transcript for the school to which you are applying. Order your transcript through Jodi Vanek , our Registrar. She is in the Attendance Office. If you are under 18, you will need to have your parents sign an authorization for us to send your transcript. Ms. Vanek has those as well.

$$$$$$  Money for College. For grants and many other financial aid, parents complete FAFSA after January 1 (you can get a PIN number now). Go to lns.lps.org→  go to the Counseling page. From there, you can access a list of scholarships as well as links to other scholarship search providers.
