The following scholarship information has been received by our counseling office. No specific deadline application date has been specified for these "ongoing" scholarship opportunities.  *Often times ongoing scholarships are awarded on a rolling first come/first serve basis and there is a limited amount of financial aid available.  It is to the student's advantage to apply as soon as he or she can.*

 

Access College Early Scholarship - This program can pay the tuition and mandatory fee costs of a high school student who wishes to take a dual enrollment or early admit(concurrent) class a t a Nebraska College or University.  To qualify, a high school student, or that student's parent(s)/guardian(s), would have had to experienced an extreme hardship(i.e. fire, loss of job, accident, etc), or currently be eligible for one of the following federal benefit programs:  food stamps, free or reduced price lunches, supplemental security income (SSI), special supplemental nutrition program(WIC) or temporary assistance for needy families(TANF). American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest (All grade levels) - State Winner $1,500 and National awards of $18,000, $16,000 and $14,000. Must be a high school student under the age of 20; must prepare a speech according to contest guidelines and assigned topic; 8-10 minute delivery time. Doane College Teach Grant Program - financial aid for Teachers. Students must have intent to teacher. Must file a FAFSA, must be in good standing with Title IV programs, must participate in TEACH grant counseling to confirm interest, student must be above the nantional 75% in one sub test submitted to Doane (ACT-SAT) or submit a GPA from high school of at least a 3.25 on a 4.o scale or submit a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale after one full -time semester at Doane. Student must mantain a GPA of 3.25 . Funding $16,000 undergraduate. ESA Foundation has 31 scholarships available for Nebraska students. Applications available online at www.esaintl.com/esaf Students may apply for three(3) of the scholarships. These are listed on the Nebraska portion of the website. Each applicant must have two letters of recomendation signed & dated & thier own letter (each may be copied) plus their school transcript(all transcripts need to be "official". Joseph's College of Beauty Scholarship - $2,000 award for students who attend Joseph's College of Beauty in Lincoln, Beatrice, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Norfolk or North Platte. May apply for scholarship when applying for admission. Applications taken the end of each month.

KFRX 106.3 Scholarship Club -  The 106.3 KFRX was formed to recognize the academic achievements of area High School Seniors.  KFRX will announce a weekly "Scholar of the Week" throughout the 2007-2008 school year. That wistudent will receive many on-air announcements during that week, recognizing their achievements and will be aawarded a plaque.  KFRX will award five $600 scholarships at the end of the school year from those that have won the weekly awards.  All applications must be recieved by March 1, 2008.  The sooner you apply the better chance you have to be selected!  Applications available in the counseling center or on the web at   www.kfrxfm.com

LEARN TO DREAM SCHOLARSHIP

Southeast Community College (SCC) and Lincoln's high schools announced that they are partnering with Union Bank & Trust and Nelnet to offer a scholarship program for low-income Lincoln youth to attend SCC. With funding from Union Bank & Trust and Nelnet, the innovative Learn to Dream Scholarship program pays tuition and fees for up to 45-quarter credits at SCC for eligible students. All Lincoln high school students who qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch (as defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture) are eligible for the scholarship.

 

The Learn to Dream Scholarship program has the potential to make college possible for nearly 600 students each year in our community. Through the program, students will be able to attend SCC for approximately one year of classes without having to pay for tuition and fees. The program will be offered to eligible students who graduate from one of Lincoln's public, private or parochial high schools on or after January 1, 2008. To encourage participation, Nelnet and Union Bank & Trust will work closely with the Lincoln schools and community organizations to promote the scholarship program to parents and students as early as the 8th grade to provide an incentive to students to plan and prepare for post-secondary education.

Midwest Student Exchange Program - Reduced tuition rates for college students in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota attending college as an out-of-state student in participating states. The National Federation of the Blind will give 30 college scholarships to the nation's top blind students in its 2008 NFB Scholarship Program during our annual convention next year. These awards include the $12,000 Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship; 1 Scholarship for $10,000; 2 Scholarships for $7,000 each; 4 Scholarships for $5,000 each; and 22 Scholarships for $3,000 each. Each winner will be brought to the NFB annual convention next July at Federation expense and will receive other useful gifts. The Money to Learn Scholarship sponsored by ASAP/Union Bank and Trust and Lincoln Journal Star's Newspapers in Education (NIE). Ongoing application until 3/15/2008. 24 scholarships awarded to 24 Nebraska high school seniors graduating in 2008. Each will receive a $500 scholarship to be applied toward their post secondary education. Other requirements include: Graduate in upper 1/3 of graduation class or an ACT of 20 or above, attendance at post-secondary institution full-time within Nebraska during the next academic year, completion of the money to learn scholarship application. University of Nebraska - Lincoln Love Memorial Hall Alumnae Association - Love Hall is a unique because it is a cooperative, which means that all residents earn a "scholarship" by spending 4-6 hours a week on leadership activities, cooking, or contributing to the upkeep of the hall.
