Recycling CRT Study Guide-2nd Grade

There are 2 types of garbage:

How does litter and garbage in the landfill get into our water?

When objects rot they mix with rainwater and are carried through the soil into the groundwater we use.  The more garbage we throw away the more space it takes up and the dirtier our planet becomes.

The 3 R’s of Recycling

REDUCE-Reduce means reduce the amount of trash we throw away.  We buy items with less packaging because we know we’ll end up tossing wrappers in the landfill.  We reuse to lessen the amount of trash we make.

REUSE-Reuse means to use again.  A sandwich container, a water bottle and a lunch box are all examples of items we reuse instead of bags or juice boxes used once and thrown away.

RECYCLE-Recycle means to take something old and make it new. Aluminum cans, newspaper, glass, and plastics bottles are all examples of items we can make new.  Recycling is the best example of the 3 R’s.  When we recycle we also reuse and reduce the amount of trash thrown away.
