Homework
Your child will receive some homework assignments in math, spelling, and phonics.
- Your child will bring home a small paper book on a regular basis. This book supplements either a phonics lesson that we’re working on, or story vocabulary. Please read this story with your child. Then, talk about the phonics concept. Your child does not need to bring the little books back to school. Your child will be decorating a shoebox at home to place these little books in. Please revisit them throughout the year.
- We will not begin having spelling tests until second quarter. At that time your child will have spelling words to practice. We will take pretests on Mondays. Your child will bring home the spelling lists on the days of our pretests. Final tests will generally be on Fridays. The words and challenge words are from a district spelling list that correlates with our phonics lessons.
- There will be times when your child will bring home math homework. Please work on math facts on a regular basis. Other concepts you can work on include, telling time to the half hour, talking about the value of coins, and measurement.
- Please make time to read to and with your child each and every day.
