All About Ms. Bitney!
Professional Information
I've been teaching first and/or second grade for 18 years. This is my thirteenth year at Maxey. Maxey is a wonderful school to teach and learn at. I appreciate the connections I've made with families over the years.
In addition to teaching elementary school, I've had two other careers in my adult life. Before I began teaching, I was a manager at a print shop where I also worked in the darkroom and did graphic design. I started my teaching career at Sheridan Elementary School, where I taught for five years. I then took a leave of absence from LPS to serve as the Child Development Specialist at St. Monica's Project Mother and Child, where I helped develop their first residentiaI program for mothers and their young children. When the program opened, I was responsible for parenting education and supervising the onsite Early Childhood Center. After a few years I returned to teaching, joining the Maxey staff for the school's second year. Working with children, and learning about how they grow and develop has always been a passion of mine!
Personal Information
I live with my husband, Doug, two dogs and one cat. I have a son and a daughter, too, but they're all grown up and out of the house - Willa is 28 and Duncan is 22. (My dogs are my new resident "children"!) I love to read, garden, travel, and do photography. I also am a "tech geek" of sorts, and can easily spend too much time on the computer! This summer I had the opportunity to visit Kenya. I spent time in Nairobi, where I visited several schools, then went "on safari" at the Masai Mara game reserve. It was an amazing trip!
