The LSW World Language Department Believes...

  • That it is to our students' advantage to take two years of a language during one academic year or two consecutive semesters.  If this is not possible due to other schedule constraints, students may need to seek out additional resources in order to be successful.  These include on-line resources, before and after school peer tutoring, and additional effort on the part of the student.
  • That native speakers of languages other than English should take advantage of the opportunity to learn an additional language rather than enroll in courses that teach their native language.  If a student chooses to enroll in a course of their native language, he or she should seek the counsel of the appropriate World Language teacher before registering.
  • That it is to our students' advantage that they earn a C or better in a language course before continuing to the next level of that language due to the spiraling nature of our courses. Therefore, it is in the students' best interest to build a strong foundation of skills that can help ensure their success in future courses.

If a student is unsure whether or not he or she is ready for the next level of a course, he or she can consult our department's list of essential skills for each course.  (see attached list of each course and level's essential skills)
