Kindergarten Schedule
Mrs. Renken’s Class
9:00 – 9:15 Opening
As the day begins we will all meet on the carpet and start opening activities. This includes calendar, days of week, months of year, counting the days of school, and short word and number activities. During this time, we also pick 1 or 2 captains of the day to be the teacher’s helpers.
9:15 – 10:00 Writers Workshop
The children are presented with a short lesson and then given time to practice the skill taught. There will also be time for students to share work.
10:00 - 10:15 Literacy Workstations Block 1
During this time children work in small groups or pairs. They have a “job” or task to complete. During this time students are also pulled to work on small skill group. We work with text to expand reading skills.
10:15 - 10:30 Morning Recess
10:30– 11:20 Literacy Workstations Block 2
Finish up workstations.
11:20 – 11:25 Bathroom/Wash Hands
This is a short period of time before lunch we will use to get ready for lunch and recess.
11:25 - 12:00 Lunch/Recess
12:00 – 12:15 Handwriting
This is the time of day where we will focus solely on handwriting. Skills that we are working towards will be griping the pencil, writing letters starting at the top of the line or at the middle/dotted line, and writing from left to right.
12:15 - 12:40 Math Whole Group Lesson
This will be the time in math were we sit together and focus on one lesson as an entire group doing group activities. We will work on many different skills in math. Counting, number identification, addition, subtraction, time, and money.
12:40 - 1:15 Math Work Stations
After the whole group lesson students will divide into four different groups; two groups going to seat work to reinforce the whole group lesson skills just taught, one group meeting with Mrs. Renken, and one group participating in a game or activity on the carpet. After 15 minutes the group on the carpet and the group with Mrs. Renken will switch. The next day Mrs. Renken will meet with the next two groups.
1:15 – 2:05 Specials (see specials schedule for more details)

- Day 4 Computer
2:05 – 2:40 Plan - Do – Review
Children are given time to make a plan within our classroom. Areas used at the time may include blocks, kitchen, dollhouse, writing, art, computer, etc. At the end of the allotted time we then review and talk about what activities or projects we are working on.
2:40 - 3:00 Shared Reading (Integrated Studies on Thursdays & Fridays)
At this time we read stories, poems and do songs that involve the entire group. Our activities at this time all correlate with the theme we are on (farm, families, counting, etc.). Integrated studies will take place most Thursdays and Fridays. This will be where we focus on science, social studies, health, & character education.
3:00 - 3:38 Word Work
This is the time of the day were we will focus on letters and their sounds, word wall words, and reading and spelling word families.**On Fridays we will have celebration recess at 2:45.
3:30 - 3:38 Review & Dismiss
Review day’s events and begin gathering our things to prepare for home.
