Sorting
1. Open a new workbook in Excel
2. In Worksheet 1
- Type “Name” in A1
- Type “Favorite ice cream” in B1
- Select A1 and B1 – Bold and Size 16
- Favorite ice cream goes past the end of the cell – how do we fix that?
- 2 ways: Click on column B, drag out OR click on column B, double click
3. You are going to create spreadsheets in Worksheet 2 and 3 also.
- Type Name in Cell A1
- Type “Favorite Color” topic in Cell B1
- Select A1 and B1 – Bold and Size 16
- Select Worksheet 3
- Type Name in Cell A1
- Type “Favorite Sport” in Cell B1
- Select A1 and B1 – Bold and Size 16
4. Using a scratch piece of paper, write the same headings on the top. Be sure your name is on your paper. Pass your paper around the class and have your classmates complete it.
5. Type the data in your Spreadsheet. If you finish early, color in the cells different colors that you choose. Change the font to a different one you like.
6. Save as YOURLASTNAMEEXCEL9 into your EXCEL folder.
Sorting Directions:
- Adjust column widths
- Alphabetize the names
- Select the ENTIRE data set
- Data > sort
- Select Header Row
- Sort by Name
- See what happens
- Select the ENTIRE data set
- Data > sort
- SELECT HEADER ROW
- Sort by Favorite Ice Cream
- See what happens
- Sheet 2 and 3 - alphabetize by name.
- Format using colored cells and font type.
- Adjust column widths.
