“The most important thing to do when solving a problem is to begin”

Frank Tyler

Lincoln Southwest Student Council

In an effort to encourge school spirit, the Student Council puts on large school wide events such as Winter Formal, Prom, and Flight Night. These three events are put on in the second semester of the school year. For Winter Formal and Prom, students are involved in choosing a theme, a venue, and decorations as well as setting ticket prices and obtaining chaperons. While dances are a lot of work to put on, they are fun and bring members closer together. Flight Night is put on at the very end of the year. It is a school wide talent show and it involves coordinating many talented students from around the school into a fantastic show. The event always has outstanding attendance and is one of the events students look forward to every year. Student Council members audition the groups, and act as the back stage crew at this event.

Student Council is often seen participating in school sporting events, and it's not rare to catch them cheering on fellow Silverhawks at a game. What's been done in the past includes providing entertainment in the form of half-time games at basketball games; these games often involve students or spectators. At sporting events, Stuco has also provided face painting to the younger children who tag along. At pep rallies within the school, Student Council sets up games, similar to those performed at half-time games. Additionally, to keep school spirit high during the long school year, the Student Council hosts door decorating contests for classes at LSW around Homecoming and Christmas time.
