Randolph SchoolÕs End of the Week Notes for March 20, 2008

Celebrations!

Happy Birthday to Deb Saunders on March 31!

Please note.

1.  Yes!  Once again we will be participating in the ÒCans for BooksÓ recycling effort.  Beginning Tuesday, April 1, you can bring your aluminum cans to RandolphÕs collection point (likely to be a stock trailer on the playground) or you can take your cans directly to the recycler—and note that the money is to go to Randolph School.  The Cans for Books promotion runs from April 1-April 30.  Randolph has won (collected the most cans for the number of students enrolled) the grand prize every year but one.  (We came in second four years ago.)  SO, gather those cans and bring them to the school or the recycler!  All the money earned (and the first place prize money!) goes to buy more books for our library!

2.  Hy Vee red stripe receipts are good for $1.00 for every $100 total collected by a school.  The collection runs through April 6, so keep sending those Hy Vee receipts to school.  WeÕre up to $11,419.59!  ThatÕs $114 of easy money for Technology!

Student Information

1.  Girls on the Run Info:

We've got five Randolph registrations in hand. We need at least three more to host a team. Reduced registration fees are available for those with documented need.  Girls may register through the fourth class, which will be April 10 at Randolph (although girls will have missed three classes by then). They can mail in the registration form posted on www.girsontherunofnebraska.org or bring a signed form with payment to the first class.

2.  Severe Weather Awareness Week will be April 7-11, 2008, throughout Nebraska.  A tornado warning in Lincoln and Lancaster County will be issued via an emergency radio broadcast around 10:15 am on Wednesday, April 9

3.  The Mayor's Run is coming!!!!  Get ready to run on Saturday, May 3, at 8:00.  Registrations can be found in the "Free Times", at any sporting goods store, or at www.lincolnrun.org.

For Your Information

Beginning Monday, March 31st we will no longer count the number of A lunches, B lunches or salads for each grade.  Teachers, you will write the number of students having ANY KIND OF HOT LUNCH on the attendance form.  (You donÕt have to have kids specify A, B, or salad.  The kitchen crew will work from past orders to know how many of which entrŽe to provide for students.)  So, we will NOT need to use the A and salad labels.  (But donÕt get rid of them.  Hold on to them until we see how well this works.)  Joyce and the kitchen crew will make the entrees and salads based on past orders, and be ready to add more to the choices, so all lunch lines get a choice.  This should make for a more relaxing walk through the serving line, as well as fewer power struggles over ÒforgettingÓ or changing minds or Òlosing tagsÓ.  Thanks for your cooperation in changing this long standing practice to an easier format.

Meetings Held This Week

Elementary Principals Council met on Wed., March 19 at LPSDO.  Among the agenda items were:

1.  a demonstration of the data warehouse computer application

We will find this very helpful as we analyze data from criterion referenced tests, norm referenced tests, and build our School Improvement goals.

2.  a discussion of 2008-2009 district and building flex time and required professional development requirements.  Watch for details in April.
