End of the Week Notes from Randolph School for Nov. 21, 2007

 

Celebrations!

Happy Birthday to Barbara Mattley on Nov. 26 and Kathy Wobig on Nov. 29!

 

WOW!  The generosity of the Randolph community is astounding!  Our families donated 1858 items (10 barrels full) of food to the Lincoln Food Bank as part of the student councilÕs food drive.  Thank you, students and families.

Meetings Held This Week

The School Improvement Process committee met on Monday, Nov. 19 at 8:15 in the Media Center.  Representatives Present:  Michelle, Connie, Judy, Jan, Jenna, Patrick, Trish, Pam, Wendy

 

Agenda:

1.  Discussed the inservices available from Computing Services for teachers to learn to implement DocuShare.  SIP and Technology Planning Committee agree that the 50 minute overview and the two hour training would be appropriate for our staff to begin the transition to DocuShare.  Wendy B. will contact Kristi Peters for dates for the trainings.  Randolph will use 3 professional development flex hours for these trainings.

 

Dates for the over view session would be Tues., Jan. 8 or Thurs., Jan. 10 from 4-5:00 p.m.

Dates for the two hour training session would be Thursday, January 17, 24 OR 31 from 4-6:00 p.m.

Kristi Peters will verify dates as soon as trainers are known.

 

2.  Randolph will share information about our SIP/PLC journey on Thursday, Dec. 13 at the districtÕs PLC Sharing Fair at ________.  The SIP members will work with their teams to develop how to report team progress, emphasizing one area of the process.  Ideas for emphasis are:

Kdg   strategies used

First  common assessment

Second  essential outcomes

Third strategies used

Fourth        SMART goal

Fifth  analyzing results

 

The SIP members will present their information to the staff at the Dec. 11 staff meeting at 8:10 in the morning.

The SIP members will meet again on Monday, Dec. 10 at 8:10 in the Media Center. This is our regularly scheduled meeting date.

SIP members talked about using an evergreen tree decorated with tiers of interventions garland and PLC term ornaments for the base of the presentation, with each grade delivering a wrapped package labeled with the part of the PLC presentation theyÕre explaining.

 

3.  SIP members discussed how to best use the PLC early dismissal time on Tuesday, November 27.  It was decided that each PLC would meet individually to review studentsÕ progress toward and achievement of SMART goals, and rewrite/revise as needed.  PLC teams will turn in any revised math or reading SMART goals to Dr. B.

 

Next meeting is Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at 8:10 a.m.  This is SIPÕs regularly scheduled meeting date.

 

 

 

The PrincipalÕs Parent Forum met on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center.  The speaker was LPS Director of Nutrition Services Edith Zumwalt.  Mrs. Zumwalt explained the federal requirements for school lunch, demonstrated the menu making decisions, explained the self supporting nature of the school food service program, and answered questions parents raised about providing healthy choices in school lunches.  Dr. Bonaiuto presented information about how Randolph SchoolÕs staff uses the professional learning community time provided each month.  Examples of how individual students benefit from the teachersÕ collaborative planning.  The next PrincipalÕs Parent Forum meeting will be Tuesday, January 15 at 7:00 p.m.  Randolph School Counselor Susie Mahoney will present information about the school counseling program services and curriculum, as well as the bullying education program, and the high ability learners program.
